Aspire opens first Irish airport lounge

Ireland’s first Aspire airport business lounge officially opened at Cork Airport. Operated by Swissport.

The new lounge, which has capacity for up to 80 guests, offers complimentary food, tailored to different parts of the day, along with drinks and newspapers are available, and there is a range of dedicated zones for business, dining and relaxing. Facilities include tableside charging and a comfortable, relaxing environment.

Speaking at the official opening of the new Aspire Lounge, Cork Airport Managing Director Niall MacCarthy said: “We are delighted Swissport has opened its first Irish Aspire Lounge here at Cork Airport. This gives everyone travelling through the airport, whether it’s for business or leisure, the chance to relax or work in comfort, and enjoy some great food and drink sourced from our region."

The new lounge features ‘Best of Irish’ additions to the food menu, with local luxury food items. The complimentary breakfast includes Clonakilty black and white pudding; while Irish stew appears in the dinner option. The all-day cheeseboard showcases Cashel blue cheese along with Irish soda bread and Ballymaloe relishes. The extensive drinks menu includes St. Patrick's Gin, distilled less than 10km from the airport, Jameson Irish Whiskey, Murphy’s Irish Stout, draught Heineken, Tipperary Irish Water and Barry’s Tea, all sourced locally.

Lighter menu choices are also available with soups and salads, and drink options include complimentary premium brand alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, speciality teas and coffees.

British Airways opens new Aberdeen lounge

British Airways unveiled its brand-new lounge in Aberdeen Airport.

The new 380 sq.m.-lounge, located within the recently completed extension of the airport, has created zones to suit all guests’ needs. The lobby has been designed so that guests travelling through the lounge quickly, can get a quick bite to eat before they head off for their flight.  For those customers with more dwell time, the airline has created a relaxing ambience with seating overlooking the runway.

The lounge houses bespoke furniture and fittings such as the feature walls, lighting and marble topped tables. The feature piece of the lounge is the beautifully crafted granite topped bar, where guests may enjoy a drink from the wide range of beverages on offer.

British Airways’ new Aberdeen lounge also features local artwork from the airline’s Art Collection.

Sarah Klatt-Walsh, British Airways’ Head of Product, said: “We are committed to investing in our lounges as part of our £4.5bn investment programme and are delighted to be opening the next one in the series in Aberdeen.
Our new design concept has been created to make better use of the space in our lounges, while still making it feel contemporary and luxurious. We have focused on technology, offering complimentary WiFi and ensuring there is plenty of access to USB and power points, enabling customers to work, surf online and charge personal devices."

Throughout the day there will be a wide range of food on offer. Those travelling on early morning flights will be able to enjoy local delicacy.

The United Polaris lounge opens at Newark

Beginning June 4, guests will be able to relax and dine before their travels in the new United Polaris lounge at Newark Liberty International Airport.
The bar is the stand-out gem of this United Polaris lounge, both in terms of size and the array of cocktails offered. The thoughtful cocktail list includes the United Polaris Old Fashioned, a fresh take on the classic, complete with J. Rieger & Co. Kansas City Whiskey, a house simple syrup, Dale DeGroff bitters with a muddled orange wheel and Luxardo cherry, just like the legend himself — Dale DeGroff— makes it. A custom-designed a la carte dining menu blends international comfort foods, such as Moroccan-spiced braised lamb, with staples like the United Polaris Burger.

The Perth International Transit Lounge was unveiled and offers a range of unique features including ‘light therapy’ in the shower suites to help adjust the body clock, a wellbeing studio with stretching classes and a refresh area providing hydrating face products. Guests can dine in an open-air terrace with a BBQ serving gourmet dishes by Neil Perry.

Qantas Head of Customer Product & Service, Philip Capps, said an emphasis on wellness in the lounge design was a whole new approach to long-haul travel.
“This sophisticated lounge is the ideal space for customers to unwind in between flights. The design reflects the natural beauty of the WA landscape through natural light and colour choices, and offers some of the best local food and wine.”
Charles Perkins Centre Professor of Sleep Medicine, Peter Cistulli, said the overarching goal was to enhance the passenger travel experience and optimise wellbeing.
“We’ve worked with the University of Sydney’s School of Physics to create an airline-first bespoke body clock intervention using bright light to help kick start the adjustment of customers’ body clocks. Applying light at appropriate times helps reduce the effects of jet lag,” Professor Cistulli said.

Lounge features include seating for 141 guests, multiple USB and charging ports, wireless printing, free Wi-fi, TV screens as well as 15 shower suites.

The interior is spacious and modern, and the unique curved ceiling promotes the infiltration of natural light.

Dining and drink options include an outdoor BBQ with chefs cooking gourmet sausages from local Perth butcher Princi Smallgoods, and vegetables such as grilled mushrooms and corn on the cob. Premium hot and cold buffet serving light dishes including soups with homemade damper, healthy salad bowls, crudité and dips. A full service bar with premium wine and beer from Australia. Hydration station serving drinks including fruit-infused water, sparkling water and herbal tea. Barista coffee.

Cathay Pacific unveils The Deck at Hong Kong

Cathay Pacific unveiled The Deck, the airline’s newest lounge at Hong Kong International Airport.

Located close to gate 16 in Terminal 1, The Deck accommodates up to 186 guests in four main seating areas that are divided by elegant Japanese-style wooden partitions. The 823 sq.m.-lounge is fitted with designer furniture, while the use of natural materials, plenty of greenery and artworks by local artists underline the welcoming atmosphere. The Main lounge features various sofas and shiny, golden side tables with standalone lamps. Natural daylight from the airport windows floods into the lounge, providing the facility with a more spacious feel. The Noodle Bar: Guests can order from a wide range of local delicacies, including dan dan noodles, wonton noodles, fish ball noodles, and a variety of dim sum and buns.

Food station: A wide range of buffet-style food options. Cold dishes include sandwiches, fruits, cold cuts, salads and a cheese plate. Hot dishes are also available, including assorted vegetable, fried chicken and pasta.
The Terrace: An open-ceiling L-shaped verandah features tables and individual seating. Guests can take in panoramic views of the airport’s apron and northern runway whilst enjoying their choice from a wide variety of drinks and dining options.

The lounge is further equipped with a relaxation room zone featuring bespoke Solo chairs, as well as eight shower suites, washroom facilities and a range of comfortable seating throughout.

MEA unveils revamped Cedar Lounge

Middle East Airlines has unveiled its redesigned Cedar Lounge at Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport.

The new lounge extends over an area of 3000 sq.m. with a capacity of 450 seated guests in several determined zones, e.g. a family zone, a business area, a general seating area, a dining zone, a smoking zone, a kids’ area, a spa with beauty services and massage therapy, and a central sky-lit more casual communal green space linking all the zones together.

To keep travelers connected, all seats are equipped with USB charging ports and power outlets and all zones are equipped with several large screens.

The lounge hosts a sensor-equipped dimmable lighting system technology which changes according to the amount of light coming in.

Two large buffet bars offer extensive food options, in addition, beverages are obtained from four coffee stations, and two bars offer alcoholic drinks.

Guests may now enjoy the new Lufthansa lounge at Milan Malpensa Airport; spend their time in a relaxed Italian atmosphere, as they wait for their flights.

The most recent Lufthansa lounge in Terminal 1A represents a new and exclusive concept. The 550 sq. m. area provides 117 seats, which have been structured in such a way that comfort, privacy and a feel-good ambience allow for an ideal place to work and relax. Guests should feel as if they are at home in their living room. Room dividing elements and an integrated lighting concept provide individual seating arrangements and relaxation possibilities. Huge ceiling-high window fronts provide a fantastic view of the airport apron. High-quality furniture and design classics from Vitra round off the stylish ambience. The exclusive sanitary area was designed and equipped by Villeroy & Boch.

A food and beverage highlight is the front cooking station, where guests will be offered freshly prepared meals "made in Italy” to satisfy their individual preferences.  At the central bar, a barista spoils guests with freshly brewed coffee specialties and Italian aperitifs such as Campari, Martini and Aperol, which are served with finger food. There is also a Coffee Corner in the entrance area of the Lufthansa lounge for guests who do not have a lot of time to spend, but can still start the day off strong.

The new 441 sq.m.-lounge offers space for more than 110 guests and is divided into four different zones, including a café, as well as business, lounge and quiet areas. A self-service food buffet and drinks station is also on offer. It is located on level two of the airport terminal with windows overlooking an internal atrium. 

Air New Zealand General Manager Customer Experience Anita Hawthorne says the airline is excited to open a brand-new space for customers flying out of Perth.

"We are committed to improving the customer experience and continue to invest heavily in the Australian market. This includes the operation of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on many routes and promoting services through our 'Better Way to Fly' campaign starring Dave the Goose which encourages Australians to travel to North and South America on Air New Zealand," Ms Hawthorne says.

A full buffet is available in the dining area, with an extensive selection that changes four times each day.

An array of amenities include AC and USB power sockets throughout the lounge along with wireless charging points as well as roomy shower suites. 

The lounge will be open from 04:00 a.m. until 07:00 p.m..

Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce said investing in the first dedicated Qantas Lounge at Heathrow was key as the airline prepares to directly air link Australia and Europe for the first time.
“The Kangaroo Route is at the heart of Qantas’ identity and London is one of our most important destinations,” said Mr Joyce.
“We have worked with leaders in design, food and service to create a lounge that is modern and comfortable and incorporates the aesthetics of the Qantas lounges that make our customers feel at home.

Key features of the lounge include:

- Seating for more than 230 customers

- Split over two levels with views of the airfield

- Interiors reflect London at twilight with deep green and rich blue while dark wood, stone and brass represent the historical architecture of the city.

- A marble cocktail bar beneath a brass chandelier on the upper level serves cocktails, as well as Australian and European wine and beer
